Lamellas as a modern form of interior finishing

The slats not only provide an attractive interior finish, but also provide soundproofing functions, making the rooms quieter. In the case of a kitchen, they can also separate the kitchenette space from the living area. Importantly, the installation of slats is simple and quick. How to install them correctly in the kitchen? Before starting the installation, carefully prepare the surface on which the slats will be mounted. If there are any irregularities or damages on the wall, they should be leveled using putty. Let’s also make sure that the wall is free from stains and dirt that could affect the adhesion of the slats.

Preparing walls for slats

It is necessary to prime the walls before installing the slats. This is a step that guarantees the durability of the final result. However, on smooth walls painted with acrylic or latex paint and with a uniform surface, additional priming is not necessary.

To install slats in the kitchen, we can use standard assembly glue. It is worth choosing strong single-component products with universal use. Make sure the glue begins to set after just a few minutes, although it will take about 24 hours to fully dry. Alternatively, mounting tape can be used for installation. The choice of tape depends on the weight of the slats and the type of surface on the wall. This is a particularly practical solution for smooth walls and will speed up the installation process.

Soundproofing the room – slats and felt

Felt slats in the kitchen are not only decorative, but also soundproof, which allows for effective soundproofing of the room. It is worth noting that the felt backing is the main element that ensures effectiveness in noise reduction. That’s why we often hear the term “acoustic lamellas” when referring to these decorations. Felt slats with a pad turn out to be a practical and simple solution, especially if we plan to carry out the arrangement ourselves, without the help of a specialist. Their installation does not require precise distance measurement. Before installing slats in the kitchen, it is worth considering the appropriate color match to the wall. The felt pad usually has a darker shade, which provides a favorable contrast with a light or gray background.

An option is also to additionally highlight the decoration by using LED wall lamps or lighting that emanates from behind individual slats, which adds a unique character to the interior. The slats can be mounted above the kitchen island, on the border between the kitchen and the living room or on a selected wall. There is no single rule regarding the arrangement – it depends on our preferences and the effect we want to achieve. Nowadays, many people decide to install lamellas on both the wall and ceiling, which creates an interesting spatial composition.

Protection against moisture and dirt

It is worth remembering that felt slats in the kitchen are exposed to dirt and collecting dust. Therefore, regular cleaning with mild or diluted cleaning agents is necessary. Aggressive detergents may damage the varnish layer on the slats, which would accelerate their wear. To ensure the effect, you should also ensure proper ventilation of the room and avoid excessive accumulation of moisture, which may negatively affect the wood.
