Underfloor heating has gained in popularity over the last several years, mainly due to the reduction of buildings’ heat demand. However, its installation is not only a matter of savings, but it is worth installing them primarily for comfort and a beneficial effect on our well-being, thanks to the even temperature distribution.
The underfloor heating system includes various variants, but they have one thing in common – giving off heat with a large surface at low temperature.
Why is it worth installing underfloor heating?
Underfloor heating ensures even and effective heating of the entire room, eliminating colder and warmer places and avoiding the feeling of a cold floor. Underfloor heating radiates heat using the entire floor surface, which is the opposite of radiators, where the heat emits only one point and spreads throughout the room. This is also beneficial for the vertical temperature distribution. It is warmest near the feet and slightly cooler in the head, which we perceive as comfortable. However, it is worth remembering that the heated floor should be neutral to the touch. Not cold, but also not hot, even if it is covered with ceramic tiles that conduct heat well.
The temperature of the floor surface should not exceed 29°C in living rooms and 33°C in bathrooms. It is even possible to raise the temperature to 35 ° C in the so-called. edge zones, i.e. on a narrow strip along the external walls, where heat losses are the greatest. These values are maximum values and should only be used during the greatest frost. It is usually recommended to keep the temperature up to 25°C.
Floor heating – water or electric
Underfloor heating comes in different variants, differing in heat source. We have water and electric systems. In the water version, heat is transferred through pipes through which heated water from the boiler or heat pump flows. The electric version uses resistance wires, mats or foils that generate heat under the influence of current flow. More important, however, is the arrangement and method of execution, e.g. the rate of heating and cooling of the floor and the possibility of precise temperature control.
Underfloor heating is a great way to ensure thermal comfort in rooms. It provides even and comfortable heating and enables precise temperature control. It is worth carefully considering the type and power of the system depending on the needs and rooms in order to enjoy the warmth for many years.
