More and more often it happens that wanting to renew an existing floor, we choose to install vinyl panels on an existing tile. In this case, it is important to do it properly, in accordance with the rules of art, to get the desired effect and satisfaction from using such a floor for many years. In this article, we will take a step-by-step look at how to lay vinyl planks over an existing tile surface.

Preparation of the floor surface

Before starting the installation of vinyl panels, the floor surface must be properly prepared. For ceramic tiles, make sure they are clean, dry and even. If there are visible unevenness or defects, they must be leveled. Cement fillers can be used for this purpose. If the floor is crooked, use a self-leveling screed.

After leveling the surface, you need to take care of the insulation. In the case of apartments where we plan to lay vinyl panels in the bathroom, liquid film should be used to protect the floor against moisture. Then, remove any dirt from the floor and allow it to dry.

The next step is to choose the right vinyl planks. When laying panels on ceramic tiles, it is recommended to choose panels with a click mineral core or vinyl panels, if you have a perfectly smooth floor. Both products are flexible and can be laid without the use of glue.

You should also choose the right underlay. It is worth choosing an underlay that gives low acoustics and is easy to lay, such as an accordion or PUM underlay. 3-in-1 underlays, which have an integrated vapor barrier foil and a connecting tape, will make installation easier.
