How to calculate the number of coffers to cover a suspended ceiling?

The question of how to correctly calculate the number of coffers bothers many people who plan to install such a ceiling in their home or office. First of all, it is important to correctly calculate the number of coffers, which will ensure not only an aesthetic, but also a functional finish of the ceiling.

Note: When laying coverings made of elements forming visible connections, edge boards should not be narrower than half of the modular dimension. This means that the size of the outer panels should not be less than 30 cm. In the case of a room that does not allow symmetrical arrangement of modules, the width of the outer panels should be calculated as follows.

The width of the room should be divided by the dimension of the coffer, and from the obtained result deduct unity and the remaining fraction. For the room in question: 375 cm : 60 cm = 6.25. After deducting 5 full modules and 1.25 modules, we get a remainder of 1.25 modules. Therefore, to arrange the ceiling, you need 5 rows of whole coffers and two extreme rows of narrower ones, 37.5 cm wide, calculated as half of the rest multiplied by the modular dimension (0.5 × 1.25 × 60 cm = 37.5 cm).

In the same way, you can calculate the dimensions of the extreme strips along the length of the room. 500 cm : 60 cm = 8.33, so we get 7 full strips and two outer strips 40.0 cm wide (0.5 × 1.33 × 60 cm = 40.0 cm). Thanks to such calculations, you can determine the number of needed coffers, which will allow for the correct installation of the coffered ceiling.

It is also important not to rely solely on ceiling surface area when determining the number of panels needed as this can be confusing. In this case, a 3.75 x 5.00 m ceiling requires 35 solid panels in the middle and 28 panels to be cut (2 × 7 + 2 × 5 + 4 in the corners = 28 pieces). You can use special additional accessories, such as connectors or hinges, which allow you to connect the cassettes in more complex structures.

Summary

Calculation of the number of coffers needed to cover the suspended ceiling requires accurate measurement of the dimensions of the room and taking into account the principles of aesthetic arrangement of the coffers. It should be remembered that the edge boards should not be narrower than half of the modular dimension in order to obtain even and aesthetic connections. If the dimensions of the room do not allow for a perfect fit of the modules, edge boards with a smaller width should be used. It is also important to take into account special accessories that allow you to combine cassettes in more complex structures. Thanks to these rules, you can accurately calculate the number of required coffers, which will allow you to carry out renovation works in an accurate and aesthetic way.
