Fixings are one of the most important structural elements of any building. Without them, it would not be possible to build solid, durable and safe buildings. There are many types of fasteners available on the construction market, among which the most commonly used are pins, screws, anchors and screws.
The selection of the appropriate type of fastening should depend on the material in which it is to be embedded and the load it is to carry. When using fasteners, remember about their quality and proper selection. Inadequate mounting may weaken the structure and may damage or destroy the object.
Standard pins
Standard pins are a type of fastening that is used for fastening in lightly loaded materials. They work by expanding the walls of the pin during tightening, which allows the object to be fixed. Universal pins are a modified version of traditional pins, which are designed for fixing in solid and fine-hole elements. In this case, the fastening screw not only expands but also causes the plug to swell, which causes the formation of anchor “humps” on the walls between the empty spaces.
Special pins
To hang heavy objects in walls made of light materials, such as polystyrene, special pins should be used, inserted by screwing into a hole with a smaller diameter. On the other hand, worm pins embedded with a special drill are used to hang light objects in plasterboards. In order to suspend, for example, a chandelier in a plasterboard substrate, wing anchors can be used.
Chemical anchors
Chemical anchors are used in the case of very heavy loads, in solid and fine-hole substrates. When fixing with chemical anchors, there are no expanding forces, which is very important when the holes are densely arranged and when fixing close to the edge. The fastening element, i.e. a specially shaped anchor, is glued into the drilled hole.
Remember:
Choosing the right type of fastening is crucial for the durability and safety of buildings. It should also be borne in mind that fastenings for similar purposes may have a different structure and require different screws or bolts. It is also worth noting that incorrect mounting can lead to damage to materials and structural elements, and in extreme cases, even to serious accidents.
In the case of a large number of anchor holes, a special resin gun can be used. Chemical anchors are a solution for demanding tasks, because they have high strength and allow fixing in difficult conditions. However, their assembly is more complicated and requires specialized tools and knowledge.
Summary
Choosing the right type of fastening is crucial for the durability and safety of the structure and equipment. It is worth paying attention to the type of substrate, loads and material of the element to be fixed. It should also be remembered that it is not always easier to use complete connectors.
